What’s IPXY?

So, “IP” stands for “International Protection,” thanks to the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) who came up with the standard. A lot of folks also refer to it as “Ingress Protection,” which signifies the protection against external elements. The numbers that follow indicate the degree and types of protection.

The “X” signifies dust protection, with numbers ranging from 0 to 6 representing the levels. A zero means no protection at all, and six indicates the highest level (no dust can enter even with extended exposure).
