The blade of the Opinel Atelier Walnut Ebony Nr. 8 model is crafted from the renowned Sandvik 12C27 stainless steel. The handle, smooth and polished, is made from natural walnut, while the tip of the handle is fashioned from African ebony. These two types of wood are separated by a layer of maple. A special wax is manually applied to each handle, giving it a luxurious feel.

Featuring the Virobloc safety ring, which was patented by Marcel Opinel in 1955. The Virobloc consists of two parts made from stainless steel: a fixed part and a sliding part. Not only does it securely lock the blade in the open position (ensuring safe use), but it also allows for the blade to be locked in the closed position (ensuring safe transport).
